Earth Systems Science

MESB01, 10 credits

Syllabus Swe Eng

Literature list Swe Eng

This foundational course focuses on the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the global Earth system as they relate to sustainability challenges and intersections with society.

The course includes a strong focus on developing graduate-level academic writing skills, including small group peer-review sessions for the pre-course assignment and training in academic writing skills. These elements are combined to culminate in a scientific term paper.

The course format includes lectures, labs, group work and activities, and a three-day, two-night excursion through the natural and cultural landscapes of Skåne, based at a field station in Breanäs.

An emphasis is also placed on effective communication, leadership, and group dynamics in a multicultural setting, laying the foundation for collaborative learning projects throughout the LUMES program.
